Adopting a pet has many advantages, some of which you may not have thought of. Here are some reasons why pet adoption would benefit you and your family.
You are saving a life – The most obvious reason of them all is you are saving an animal’s life. By adopting from a shelter, you are providing an animal with the second chance they deserve. Shelters work tirelessly to nurse animals to optimum health, rehabilitate disturbed animals, and do everything they possibly can to ensure they are prepared to go to a new home. By adopting a pet you can give an animal that has lost their home through no fault of their own the loving and stable home they truly deserve.
Improved health and happiness – Studies have shown that having a pet can extend your life, all while improving your overall happiness and health. It also helps people with depression, stress, anxiety, and loneliness. The companionship a loyal pet offers helps people with depression and loneliness. Stroking your pet can reduce blood pressure and stress levels in the most beneficial way; and playing with them can increase the levels of serotonin and dopamine your body produces, making you feel calm and relaxed. Walking your pet and playing with them is a way to exercise and provides sufferers of anxiety and depression with a reason to leave the house. It also creates opportunities for socialising with other pet owners. The animal you have saved through pet adoption can save you.
Children benefit – Children can be taught valuable life skills through pet ownership, such as the importance of maintaining responsibilities, and caring for another living being. Pet adoption will also encourage empathy by making them think about how they have helped to give an unwanted animal a loving home. Pets can also help children with separation anxiety and provide them with security, as they can be safe in knowing that someone will always be there. In addition, they will have a loving companion and playmate.
Unconditional love – A pet is a companion that will never judge you, will love you no matter what, and will always be there. As well as making you feel great, their unconditional love raises your self-esteem because of the affection they show you. It is said that animals know when they have been rescued, so the bond between you and your adopted pet will be especially strong.
The satisfaction you will gain when you adopt a pet is like no other; you will have received a healthy pet, you will be supporting a healthy and just cause, you will get the perfect pet for your family, and you will have saved a life. Adopting a pet has lifelong benefits that you will not regret. Give an animal a second chance by allowing them to join your loving family.

My cousin introduced me to your book today. I have been a volunteer adoption coordinator with Lab Rescue of the LRCP for a little over a year. I adopted two Labradors from rescues and recently a foster fail with a lab from a domestic violence situation. After two days of fostering, I adopted him and it has been a journey of love, trust and patience.
That is great! Labs are awesome dogs. Very versatile breed.
